Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Yale University. My research focuses on the political economy of development, authoritarian rule, and Chinese politics.

My forthcoming book The Art of Political Control in China examines how the Chinese state controls protest and implements ambitious policies from sweeping urbanization schemes to family planning initiatives. My ongoing research projects examine the military, technology, and nationalism in Chinese politics.

I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University.
