Lecture: the rise of china

China’s rise on the world stage is arguably the most important geopolitical event of this century. This course serves as a broad introduction to China’s domestic and international politics.

Seminar: Governing China

This is an advanced seminar on the foreign and domestic politics of China. Topics include elite politics, technology, economic growth, repression, propaganda, protest, the military, soft power, and foreign policy.

New Faces in China Studies

I am one of the co-organizers of the New Faces in China Studies workshop series for current Ph.D. students in political science. The other organizers are Taylor Fravel, Yue Hou, Zhenhuan Lei, Melanie Manion, and Yuhua Wang.

SEMINAR: Qualitative Field research

This class is part of the graduate qualitative methods sequence, and offers and introduction to field research methods. Building on prior versions of the course offered by other instructors, the seminar covers the basic techniques for collecting, interpreting, and analyzing ethnographic data. All participants carry out a research project in New Haven.
